The number 7 may confuse some people, for it sometimes represents death, or at least “endings.” The reason for this may not be readily apparent. In order to illustrate this, we may take a look at any tzolk’in diagram. Any day-sign sequence beginning with 1 will end in a 7. It will be like this: 1, 8, 2, 9, 3, 10, 4, 11, 5, 12, 6, 13, 7. This is why 7 is so often considered a symbol of endings. In the Popol Vuh, the Hero Twins are named 1 Hunahpu and 7 Hunahpu, while the most important Underworld Lords are named 1 Death and 7 Death. When 1 and 7 are paired together in such a fashion, it is as if we were saying: “The beginning and end of the Hero Twins archetype,” or “The alpha and omega of the Death archetype.” Rituals are seldom performed on 7 days.
BEN (AJ) THE RESURRECTION OF THE CORN: Home, family, a stalk of sugar cane or corn; vocation, sprout, offspring, a cane or walking stick; seed, staff of authority, power and the growth of crops; stability, solidity, strength, resoluteness of character; tenderness. This is the nawal of the home and of children. This is the day to give thanks for the home in which we live, for this day is connected with the nourishment and flourishing of all things related to the home, whether human, animal or plant.

Ben - East

Symbolism:

To the Maya, this day-sign, Ben (bane) appears to have symbolized the development of both the maize plant and man. The word Ben does not seem to refer to any particular plant or deity. Some researchers have thought that the sign probably referred to the standing corn stalk - as opposed to ripe corn - or perhaps to a reed or cane. They glyph is highly stylized, though in some variants a link with vegetation appears to be present. Some people have suggested that the glyph refers to a mat made of reeds, representing a kind of weaving.

Personality:

Ben types are often popular, knowledgeable, accomplished and competent, with strong opinions. they are often highly regarded by others for their talent or expertise. In some cases they are simply way ahead o f their competitors, or have made their mark on the field in which they work. In other cases, it is just a matter of general competency - the ability to excel at whatever it is they decide to do. They are fighters for moral or ethical principles and are quick to take on challenges. At worst, they are opinionated. These people will "stick to their guns" when under fire, keep a "stiff upper lip" when in trouble and, like a reed or cane stalk, remain firm in tense situations. They can be intellectually rigid and prone to argue, however. These people have a militant side, and although they don't deliberately seek conflict, they seem to thrive in it. Persons born under Ben are usually popular and social, having deep knowledge of human nature. For some, this quality brings them well deserved fame; for others, it brings respect and recognition from their peers. Although Ben types have enemies, even their enemies respect Bens successful ways. People born under the Ben sign are ambitious and clear about their goals and intentions.

Challenge:

Being opinionated or holding rigid attitudes.

Solution:

To understand human nature; to apply social skills. Ben

1-Manik

Beneath the 1-Manik surface personality is a person who struggles with issues of freedom versus security. Manik people display an urge to take off for parts unknown, but they also demonstrate a desire for the security of home and family. Because the struggle with this conflict leads people to discover unique solutions, they often become innovators or creators of a somewhat unconventional personal lifestyle. Frequently they have unusual interests of an investigative or searching nature.

G-1

This powerful lord rules the Center. Persons born under it tend to be direct, assertive, and even combative toward others. As a result of this intensity, they tend to experience strong, forceful events in their lives.

They are often driven by very basic or primal needs. Leadership is one of their greatest challenges; they must learn to utilize leadership skills. G-1 people can quickly move to the center of things, but once there, they are not sure that others will follow them. If they dont learn to be more sensitive to how others perceive them and develop an understanding of social norms, they will lose followers.

G-1 types want to be where the action is and their contribution of energy and enthusiasm is usually vital to the groups in which they participate. Father-related issues often play into a G-1s leadership dysfunction. Having a distant or abusive father sometimes results in inadequate training for leadership. Sometimes even a good paternal relationship can cause stress for a G-1, who then tries to reach real or perceived high standards. In either case, an understanding of the father is probably very important to a G-1's self understanding.

The dark side displayed by these people has to do with uncontrollable urges to put oneself first. G-1's general personality traits are similar to those of Mars in Western astrology.
