Tzolkin Trecena Notes – 1 Cimi (Death/Transformation)

Day 66 of the 260 Day Tzolkin

Gregorian Date: April 17, 2011

Year Bearer: 12 Eb

Trecenas are thirteen-day periods in the Tzolkin. Each Trecena starts with the Number 1, but with a
different Day Glyph. As a wave of the Thirteen Heavens, the underlying energy is governed by the
First Day Glyph of the Trecena and influences all thirteen successive Day Glyphs. Being aware of the
predominant energy of the First Day of the Trecena, we can align our intentions with that energy
and allow our goals to manifest.

This Trecena starts with 1 Cimi (Death/Transformation) – surrender, forgiveness, discipline, fortitude,
self-actualization, empowers staying in the moment. Every transformation offers us another beginning –
another step up the pyramid to our Soul’s True Destiny.

Reed

The Maya celebrated Cimi as a day of transformation rather than a day of death . In the Popul Vuh,
the Hero Twins defeat the Lords of Death in a ballgame which takes place in the Underworld. The
Twins are ordered by the Lords of Death to perform many tasks. They are tricked by the Lords and
lose their lives, only to be reborn by transforming themselves. Thus the Maya celebrated this day
as a lucky day of transformation leading to wisdom.

In ancient times, Death was also referred to as the direction North, which symbolized the Ancestors.
Seeking wisdom and guidance from the Ancestors was at the heart of Mayan ritual practice. According
to Kenneth Johnson in Jaguar Wisdom, “In the day-sign Death, we become one with those who went
before us, and we partake of their wisdom. In the human body, Death is associated with the crown
chakra, the sacred center through which solar enlightenment and ancestral wisdom may best enter
into our own consciousness. Hence, this day-sign bestows upon us the ancestral wisdom that guides
us through all our transformations.”

The energy of transformation on all levels, from the physical cellular level to the spiritual co-creative
level, propels us to be aware of all possibilities in each moment of creation. We are now ready to
exercise a choice: to move into a vibration of listening to our intuition and allowing our ancestral
wisdom to guide us, or to stay with old patterns of the ego and the rational mind. If we choose the
path of transformation, the old patterns no longer serving us are released and we are filled with light.

Another representation of the Trecena is that of a creative wave beginning at 1 and ending at 13, with
the numbers 6, 7 and 8 representing the crest of the wave. The crest could be interpreted as a strong
influential energy, although the underlying influence on the Trecena would still rest in the beginning.
6 Chuen (Monkey), the creative artisan, the keeper of ancient knowledge; 7 Eb (Road), the vital
energy that moves us forward on the Road of Life; 8 Ben (Reed), listening to and utilizing our inner
power to fulfill our true destiny. This is a powerful time to seek wisdom from the ancients and to
allow intuition and heart be the guiding forces in the transformational journey of life.

“This is a special day to contact the ancestors, cure potentially fatal illnesses, prevent
accidents, ask for protection during travel, and find access to spiritual knowledge.
Communication with higher beings is possible n this day, as is access to dimensional gates.”
Carlos Barrios, The Book of Destiny.

Kame, a day to forgive and ask forgiveness for all bad actions. Represents the beginning, harmony, vision, cunning and intelligence. Developing the energy of the night to give birth to another day, the rebirth into a new life after the Mother.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Number 1 symbolizes beginnings, unity, the original energy of creation. Even though it is a low number, it is powerful, for it has to do with the energy of the new trecena which is making its arrival. Daykeepers usually do ritual on a 1 day, and in some traditional communities there is a special shrine dedicated to the number 1. It also symbolizes the power of thought, the initial or beginning “idea” behind all things that inspires us to create and to bring things into manifestation.
CIMI (KAME) DEATH AND REBIRTH: Signifies death, the lord of the darkness, fortitude, humility and obedience. Death is not evil, and grammatically, the word kame signifies the present tense or “the eternal now.” Upon this day we pray that we and those dear to us have long life. There is a special connection to the world of the ancestors on this day; communication with other worlds is possible. This day is also favorable for healing and for the protection of travelers. This day has much feminine energy and is a good day upon which to resolve marital conflict.

Cimi - North

Symbolism:

Cimi (Kee-Mee), the Mayan word for this day, comes from the root word for death. They glyph for the day is clearly a skull, the skull of the death god. The owl, a night bird as well as an omen of death, was also linked to this day, as was the underworld.

Personality:

Cimi types tend to be security conscious, materialistic, sacrificing, accepting of change, and helpful. They are not often confident leaders and will more often comfortable accept a secondary role or position. Tradition appeals to them, and since they have a strong faith, so does religion. Often those born under this sign are unsure of where their life is headed, and faith or instinct are all they can go on.

They are materialistic, very concerned with domestic security, and may have an interest in real estate, or perhaps work with homes or houses in some way. They have an interest and concern for the community and politics and are concerned with what is happening in the world or their neighborhood.

They like to feel that they can do something about it. They cooperate well with others and rarely allow their egos to get in the way of progress toward the collective goals in which they believe. Those Cimi who make politics a career will often associate themselves with powerful allies, even with those more powerful than themselves.

Cimi types take all kinds of responsibilities very seriously. Obligations to others, and a sense of duty, tend to dominate their lives. Because Cimi types are usually polite and hesitant to speak their true feelings, they tend to give in to others more often than may be necessary or even reasonable.

Challenge:

To have faith; not to be a victim; not to feel obliged to make too many sacrifices.

Solution:

To become truly useful to society and the world around them. Cimi

1-Cimi

Beneath the 1-Cimi surface personality is a person with a strong commitment to the community. Cimi people will sacrifice time for others, though they are often not sure just why it is that they do so. They have an extremely strong sense of tradition and are attracted to history and antiquities. They are ultimately down to earth people with deep concern for preservation of the family, community and nation.

G-7 (West)

Persons born under this lord are strongly motivated by relationships; they like to partner, and they enjoy working with the public. Many born on this day are excellent consultants, teachers, or healers. They like the finer things of life, or at least have more than a casual appreciation for quality, and they deeply enjoy music or art.

G-7 types want to be in control of their outer world because their inner world is not so controllable. Their level of sexual desire is very strong, and they often feel a need to repress such urges so as not to disturb their social life.

Some bury themselves in work in an attempt to deny these deeper urges. This repressive approach doesn't always work, and impulsive behaviors may result in social disturbances that can would them deeply.

Even thoughts may make a G-7 feel guilty. Sometimes these types will apply a kind of self-inflicted punishment in order to make amends. At their best, they will find ways to creatively explore their deeper urges through art or through various healing modalities. This process may lead them to become a healer of others. The common astrological signatures found in charts of those born on this day are a strong Venus/Libra emphasis and also the sign of Virgo.
